BIOMASS POTENTIAL IN VIETNAM

Biomass fuels are now considered as the main firing fuels of billions of stoves in the world. Scientists found statistic data that: current biomass fuels on the earth can meet 6 times of human energy demand. In case we actively develop biomass fuel sources (growing plants of high growth ability, e.g. bamboo, elephant grass, grass… with capacity of 200-400 tons/ha/year) and have efficient technologies, we will be free of concern about energy need (by then, fossil fuels will be used only in chemical technologies). And especially, environment pollution will be remarkably decreased on earth.

The followings are some statistic tables by the Institute of Energy on biomass energy potentials which can be exploited every year from wood and agri-forestry residues in Vietnam.

Thus, with the potential of biomass fuels exploited from wood and agri-forestry residues of Vietnam, up to 80-100 million tons/year, in case of efficient use and active development of these energy sources in the advantage of a tropical country, we will not only meet energy demand of Vietnam, increase revenues from biomass fuel export, but also contribute a considerable part in environment protection.
