Over the past year, the Alliance has launched several behavior change communication (BCC) activities to generate demand for and encourage sustained use of clean cooking solutions. The first set of BCC activities involved the design, implementation, and evaluation of four small-scale campaigns in Bangladesh, Ghana, Guatemala, and Uganda.  In July, the Alliance announced awardsto four organizations to design and manage large scale, two year BCC interventions in Bangladesh, Kenya and Nigeria, which are expected to reach over 20 million women and families with clean cooking messaging.

Outcomes and learnings from the small-scale programs will be shared in a report to be released later this year.  The scaled programs are currently in the formative research phase as they explore potential approaches that will be the most effective in promoting clean cookstove use among the target populations. These interventions are scheduled to launch in Quarter 1 of 2017 and more updates will be provided as plans progress.

In addition to supporting these interventions, the Alliance has also been working on various knowledge sharing initiatives to further our goal of increasing the amount and quality of BCC in the clean cooking sector.  One of these initiatives is a platform for showcasing the communications materials and methods being used by Alliance partners, and so we are developing a web-basedClean Cooking Behavior Change Communication Catalog. This online library will allow partners to access examples of media (TV commercials, radio scripts, print materials), as well as creative briefs, reports, toolkits, and evaluation results to learn and build from previous and existing work being conducted to promote clean cookstove use.

If your organization has behavior change communication, awareness raising, or marketing materials related to clean cooking, send them to knowledge@cleancookstoves.org  to have them included in the forthcoming catalog.  We will be accepting submissions through October 21.
